What will this workshop cover?
The workshop will introduce you to the collaboration and choreography of PURE. We'll start by exploring exercises that focus on movement meditation, breathing, and improvisation. Then we'll learn a segment of the original PURE choreography, applying it in different group formations so we can dance together. PURE uses movements that are inspired by ancient Sacred Circle dances, Tribal and Cabaret bellydance, Flamenco, Indian dance, Folk dance, Yoga and Qi Gong Meditation.
Requirements:
PURE is open to all dancers who are willing to try something different and work as a team. It was first designed for bellydancers who already have a foundation in basic technique, but dancers with training from other disciplines are welcomed and encouraged. Musicians who have an understanding of working with dancers are also encouraged to become involved with PURE but this will be a dance workshop. There are no limits on age, size, shape, ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic class or sexual orientation except for a desire to offer your dance for the healing and growth to the community.

PURE visits sites around Manhattan as part of the September Concert third annual city-wide music fête in celebration of our universal humanity
The procession begins at 2:00pm in Battery Park and will last until approximately 4:30p.m. Come meet us at the beginning of our route or try to find us along the way as we visit the following sites:
1. 2:00pm: Meet at the East Coast Memorial in Battery Park near Castle Clinton and the ferries to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island
2. Go to the Sphere sculpture in Battery Park next to Hope Garden
3. Travel up Broadway to Liberty Square at Liberty Street and Trinity Place, process though the square and past the World Trade Center site
4. Take the 4/5 train from Fulton Street to Grand Central Station
5. Travel along 42nd Street and up 1st Avenue past the United Nations
6. 3:00pm: Cross 1st Avenue to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza (47th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues)
7. Walk to Central Park, enter at the 59th Street & 6th Avenue entrance at the bottom of the park
8. 4:00pm: Perform at the September Concert stage at the South end of the Mall (at 66th Street, above the 65th Street Transverse)
9. Continue North through the Mall to Bethesda Fountain, just south of the Lake, in the middle of the park at 72nd Street

PURE performs at the "No Excuse" Concert, a kick-off event to foster awareness and involve the public in achieving the following United Nations Millennium Development Goals.

4. Reduce child mortality
5. Improve maternal health
6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases

The "No Excuse" concert is held at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, 47th St, bet 1st and 2nd Ave, Free to the public. Concert lasts from 12pm-8pm.

PURE performs with guests, Adore and Sonali Shroff for a project affiliated with the V-Day Project to raise money to end violence against women, ie. genital mutilation in Africa. It will be in the Love Your Tree area on the 2nd floor, which was designed for women -- and men -- to go after seeing Ensler's new Broadway play "The Good Body" which addresses why women of all cultures and backgrounds - whether undergoing Botox injections or living beneath burkhas - feel compelled to change the way they look in order to fit in, to be accepted, to be "good."
