Processions in 9 U.S. Cities on the Anniversary Weekend of PURE's First Public Event in 2004.

A community group known as PURE (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) will process through streets and parks on Saturday, July 19th, as part of an event that involves simultaneous performances in 9 U.S. cities including: Chicago , Detroit , Dallas/Fort Worth, Traverse City-MI, Orlando , Richmond , New England, and San Francisco .

Please visit individual web sites (listed on the left) or e-mail city facilitators for route details.

PURE NYC's Procession Route
On Saturday, July 19th, from 2.00-4.00p.m, the group will travel through Prospect Park , honoring trees and recognizing their importance in helping to end global warming. Native Brooklynite and PURE dancer Carol Henning (Tandava) has mapped out a special route hitting the most beautiful spots, largely unknown to most New Yorkers.

PURE was founded in New York four years ago by a group of performers committed to promoting peace by publicly presenting their dance and music outside of traditional performance venues. The members of PURE are a mix of professional and amateur performers of all ages, races, sizes, and levels who have come together with the common goal of inspiring peace and healing through their art.

Starting at the north end of the park next to the Brooklyn Public Library and Grand Army Plaza , the event will feature a procession of dancing and drumming, punctuated with site-specific choreographies and a tree adoption ceremony led by urban shaman Queen Mama Donna (internationally-acclaimed spiritual teacher, popular speaker, and award-winning writer www.donnahenes.net)

What Can You Do to Help?
Our goal is to raise $750 to adopt 3 recently planted Birch trees in Prospect Park. You can help by making a tax deductible donation at http://www.prospectpark.org/support/donate, or make a check to “Prospect Park Alliance” and mail to Prospect Park Alliance, 95 Prospect Park West, Brooklyn, NY 11215.
IMPORTANT REMINDER! Remember to write “PURE Trees” under the comments/memo section, to ensure your money is directed to our adoption.

PURE In Colombia
On May 23rd-25th, Kaeshi was invited by living Goddess, Antonina Canal of Prem Shakti (bellydance and healing) to teach alongside Bozenka and Mohamed Shahin at the 5th Annual Oriental Dance Feminine Consciousness Festival. This event was attended by 150 dancers travelling in from all over Colombia, Chile, Ecuador and Miami.

Unfortunately, a 5.9 magnitude earthquake and relentless torrential rain hit Bogota that same weekend. Thankfully no one was too seriously hurt and all the activities continued with two sold out shows in the 1000 seat theater "De venta en el Teatro".

The energy was really high with lots of transformations and emotions flowing all weekend. There is interest for 1 or 2 PURE chapters in Colombia in the near future.

PURE in Mexico

The next PURE workshop will be in Mexico City, August 1st to 3rd.
Please e-mail mahirimah_mahaila@hotmail.com for more information.

Don't Know What PURE Is?

Public Urban Ritual Experiment is a community of dancers and musicians who have come together to share their love of dance and music for the purposes of healing and peace. It is PURE's goal to affect positive change within ourselves and each other, improve the public's perception of bellydance and to celebrate the beauty of diverse body types and ages. Dance and ritual create community, drawing people together both emotionally and physically. As the community participates, there are no strangers.
